If you find yourself inside the main ceremony chamber of the University
of Vienna, be sure to check out the ceiling. In 1894 the famous artist Gustav
Klimt was commissioned to make two murals for the ceiling of the university’s
assembly hall. Deemed too provocative at the time, the Faculty Paintings
disappeared into private and public collections until they were destroyed in
WWII. Hanging in their place today are black and white replicas of the original
murals.
