Traditional costa Rican Beef Stew

One dish that is quite common among other cultures is beef stew. In Costa Rica, it's called Olla de Carne. In many other parts of the world, they have their own signature beef stew recipe or other typical food that incorporates broth, vegetables, and spices along with the meat. These kinds of dishes have been around for hundreds of years because of their ability to combine locally produced vegetables with a central meat staple, beef.

During the cold months, people from North America make a traditional beef stew or pot roast to fill hungry bellies and make cold nights a bit warmer. Of course, it's best to try the Costa Rican version when you come for a visit.

I'd love to help you plan your trip, so be sure to call me or send me an email when you're ready to start planning.

How do you feel about spending most of your life upside down and sleeping for 15 hours a day, on average?

Sloths – natives of South and Central America - are abundant in Costa Rica and have mastered precisely that. They spend most of their lives hiding away from the predators in the shade of tropical rainforests. Sloths are known for adorable haircuts, lack of hygiene, and extremely slow metabolism.

The two types of Costa Rican perezosos are rather hard to encounter unless you already know how to spot them. Let me help you book a tour with a guide who knows where most of the sloths nap and takes the best shots with these fascinating animals!

Costa Rican Coffee

The story of coffee in Costa Rica dates as far back as 1798. It is when acreage and coffee plants were gifted to anyone willing to cultivate the crop for export. It was not very hard to grow the plants in the country's mineral-rich volcanic soils, cold mountain climates, and shaded fields.

Coffee became the main export and played a significant source of income for Costa Rica. It was not only a basis for the country's economy, but it also became an integral part of the local culture. As the historians, Peter and Sampers noted, "Drinking coffee became a ritual of Costa Rican society." Would you like to experience a more traditional taste of this local delicacy? Try using a chorreador.

Arenal Volcano

The Arenal Volcano is an extraordinary presence in Costa Rica's fertile lowlands. It stands majestically at 5,437 feet (1,657 meters). The Arenal Volcano looms large and inauspicious over the pastured green hillsides that surround the area. It is the country's most active volcano for 43 years, but currently, it's in its resting phase.

What makes the volcano captivating to tourists is its symmetrical shape. There are also several outdoor activities you can try throughout your visit, including rainforest hikes, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, and much more. This place should make your "must-do in Costa Rica" list.

Nearly 25% of the country is preserved for national parks and wildlife. It is home to 27 national parks and takes up five percent of the world's biodiversity. The Los Quetzales National Park allows birdwatchers to get a full aerial view of the various species of birds. Monkeys are very apparent in the jungles as well. The Corcovado National Park is another prominent place to visit for frequent whale-watching and dolphin sightings.

Surfing

Towns such as Samara, Avellanas, and Tamarindo are great places for year-round surfing on these Pacific and Caribbean coasts. The warm water and steady wind combo make Costa Rica a surfing paradise. Many of the beaches offer boards and lessons for beginners.

Volcano Hike

The massive Arenal Volcano is one of the most well-known spots in Costa Rica. The surrounding area around the volcano is often used for kayaking, boating, and paddleboarding. Hot springs and waterfalls are also present, with zip lines and horseback riding available below the volcano summit. Rincon de la Vieja National Park's centerpiece is another million-year-old volcano that offers views of the Nicoya Peninsula and Lago de Nicaragua.

Jungle Tranquility

The natural hot springs with a green background provide geothermal waters heated by the volcano. The springs have been utilized for therapeutic healing in addition to simply relaxing in the tropics.

Dream Big!

I never thought being a travel advisor would be smooth sailing (hello flight delays and missing luggage!) but nothing quite prepares you for some of the curve balls that get thrown your way, like the first time my clients flight got cancelled while he was on vacation. That was a big curve ball to me.

I was able to swoop in and rebook his flight on another airline with no charge.

Chaos aside, it’s always a pleasure to be there for my clients and to help ensure their dream vacations are nothing but smooth.

Have you ever had any travel mishaps?
