The Duomo in Florence is
the most standout feature of the city's skyline. Rising high above the historic
old town, the Duomo has watched over Florence for centuries. Formally known as
the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Duomo took over 140 years to
complete, beginning in 1293. The cathedral's iconic dome was modeled after the
Pantheon in Rome, and a man named Fillipo Brunelleschi was hired to construct
it after winning a city-wide design competition.
For sweeping city views, climb the 463 stairs to the top of the dome and take in the beauty that is Florence!
