The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is one of the most
recognized cathedrals in St. Petersburg. Built-in memory of the assassination
of Alexander II, the cathedral took almost 24 years to construct and another 27
years to restore after Soviet destruction. It is characterized by its five
ornate domes, which are covered with jeweler's enamel. The interior of the
church boasts over 7500 square meters of mosaics, more than any other church in
the world.
