Dome of Rock

Constructed in 687 A.D., the Dome of the Rock is a sacred landmark to both Muslims and Jews. The rock that the monument sits on is where the Prophet Muhammad is believed to have ascended into heaven. The monument is also the oldest existing Islamic building in the world, and the original dome featured inlays made of real gold.
