Take a Road Trip outside of the small Villages of Florence

Florence isn't the only city you should visit while in the Tuscany region. If you want to truly experience Tuscany, hop in the car and take a road trip to some of the neighboring towns. Siena, San Gimignano, and Pisa, or you could pop over to the Umbria region and discover Assisi all are a short distance from Florence and well worth the trip. These medieval towns all feature impressive architecture and have fascinating histories and traditions that will charm any traveler.

If you're interested in visiting some of the other cities in Tuscany, DM or email me today about booking a private tour.

Cypress Trees of Tuscany

No other tree epitomizes the Tuscan landscape like the Italian Cypress. Often seen lining the roads across the rolling hills of the Tuscan countryside, these iconic trees are a symbol for the region. These tall, slim trees can grow up to 115ft high and live for thousands of years. These trees have become a mainstay in Italian gardens and villas across the region.

Fiorentina Kitchen Must Try Dishes

Aside from gelato, pizza, and pasta, there are several other famous dishes in Florence that you must try! Bistecca alla Fiorentina is a thick, juicy cut of meat that is a specialty in this region. The steak is meant to be served rare with a side of Tuscan bread on the side to soak up all the juices. Pappardelle with cinghiale sauce is another Florentine staple, but it's the cinghiale sauce that makes it so famous. You'll find this meat sauce served over top of various pasta dishes throughout the city.

Chianti

The Tuscan region is famous for its wines, most notably Chianti. Much like champagne, Chianti Classico can only be produced in one region in the world, and every bottle of Chianti Classico is marked with a black rooster. Like Merlot, Chianti is fruity and low in tannins and is, therefore, sweeter than dry red wines.

During your next trip to Italy, let’s book you a private tour of one of Tuscany's famous wineries where they make Chianti Classico. DM or email me today to start planning.

How Pizza is Different in Italy

Sure, New York is known for its pizza, and Chicago has its deep dish, but neither city can stand up to an authentic Italian pizza. In fact, there's a large difference between Italian pizza and American pizza, and it all starts with the crust. Most Italian pizzerias skillfully stretch out the dough to the point where it resembles a cracker with tomato sauce and cheese on it. It's so thin and light that you could eat a whole pizza by yourself.

If you want to learn how to make pizza the Italian way, I'll book a private cooking lesson for you during your trip to Florence. DM or email me today to start planning.

Day Trip to Siena

Just a short hour and 15minute train ride from Florence is the charming Italian town of Siena. This medieval town features 17 different districts that all compete in a historical horse race known as the Palio di Siena. The riders race around the outside of the city's famous Piazza Del Campo to bring honor, pride, and notoriety to their respective ward.

Siena is a fun and easy day trip from Florence and perfect for anyone who wants to see more of the Tuscan countryside.

Two Places to see Michelangelo inside and outside of the Gallery

Michelangelo's statue of David is one of the most famous sculptures in the world and is kept on display in Florence. Sculpted in the early 16th century, the Statue of David stands at a towering 17ft tall and is currently housed in the Galleria dell'Accademia. However, that's not the only place in Florence where you can see the statue! There are two other identical statues on display in the city—one in Piazza della Signoria and one atop Piazzale Michelangelo.

If you're interested in discovering the famous works of art while in Florence, DM or email me today to set up a private tour.

Ponte Vecchio

The Ponte Vecchio is the oldest bridge in Florence. In fact, Ponte Vecchio literally translates to "old bridge." The original bridge was built in 996 and was made from wood, but after fires and floods, the medieval stone bridge was constructed. Back in the day, the shops along the bridge used to be occupied by butchers, but today you will find jewelers and art dealers along the bridge's inner corridor.

Day Trip to Pisa

The leaning tower of Pisa is perhaps one of the most whimsical monuments in Italy. Despite taking centuries to build, the ill-conceived design plans of the tower are what cause it to lean precariously to one side. Located just outside of Florence, the leaning tower has attracted visitors to the town of Pisa ever since it was built.

While efforts have been made to keep the tower from toppling, the creative photo opportunities are enough of an argument for keeping the slight tilt a while longer!

Eating Ice Cream while you Walk

Italians and tourists alike can all appreciate a deliciously refreshing scoop of gelato. In Florence, there is no shortage of gelato in the city. If you've never tried gelato, there's no better place to have your first taste than Florence! DM or email me today to plan your trip.

A Very Walkable City

Florence might seem like a big bustling city, but most visitors are surprised to find it very charming and manageable. Most of the city's main sights are within a short walk of each other. Despite the number of visitors in and out of the city, the large open spaces make it, so the city never feels too crowded. In the afternoon, you can easily stroll from the Duomo across the river to the Pitti Palace without being pressed for time or energy.

Duomo Interesting Facts

The Duomo in Florence is the most standout feature of the city's skyline. Rising high above the historic old town, the Duomo has watched over Florence for centuries. Formally known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Duomo took over 140 years to complete, beginning in 1293. The cathedral's iconic dome was modeled after the Pantheon in Rome, and a man named Fillipo Brunelleschi was hired to construct it after winning a city-wide design competition.

What is it like to Swim in the Dead Sea

Imagine swimming in a bowl of Jell-O. That's pretty much what it's like to "swim" in the Dead Sea. Due to the water's high salinity, you are almost suspended in the water and will have to do little to no work to stay afloat. If you’re afraid of fish touching your feet in the ocean or lakes, you don't have to worry about that here. The water is too salty for sea creatures, or plants, to live hence the Dead Sea name.

TOP 5 PLACES TO VISIT IN ISRAEL

If Israel isn't on your bucket list, it should be.

Israel is a small yet mighty country. Surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea in the west, Lebanon, and Syria to the north, Jordan to the east, Egypt to the southwest, and the Red Sea to the south, Israel is no larger than New Jersey. Despite its size, Israel presents visitors with an impressive and diverse selection of geography, history, cultural activities, and cuisine. From the lively nightlife of Tel Aviv to the history of Jerusalem, we are breaking down the top five places you must-visit while in Israel.

Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv is Israel's second-largest city and the financial and cultural hub of the country. The city is most famous for its nightlife and is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. If you’re looking for a more culturally enriching experience, Tel Aviv is also home to the national opera and philharmonic orchestra.

Masada

Situated on a plateau high above the Dead Sea is the old fortress of Masada. First fortified by Herod the Great at the end of the first century, Masada is known for being the last final Jewish stronghold to fall to the Romans in the first Jewish-Roman war. Today, Masada is a popular hiking excursion for visitors and is especially spectacular at sunset. There is also a cable car that will take you up the hill for those who don't want to hike.

Haifa

Haifa is primarily an industrial and port city located along the Mediterranean, but the Baháʼí World Center is worth making the trip. Unlike most attractions in Israel, the impressive Baháʼí Gardens are relatively new. Completed in 2001, the gardens are meant to represent the spiritual unity of all humankind.

Dead Sea

As the lowest elevation on land and 10x saltier than the ocean, the Dead Sea is truly a must-visit location. Not only can you effortlessly float in the water, but the mud is believed to have healing properties and medical benefits. Be sure to pick up some skincare products while you’re there!

Jerusalem

Jerusalem is regarded as the holy city for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. As one of the world's oldest cities, Jerusalem features dozens of historical sites that have withstood the test of time. The historic Old City is divided into four quarters, Jewish, Muslim, Christian, and Armenian, where you'll find some of the city's top attractions, including the Western Wall and Dome of the Rock.
